Mornings can be a mixed bag, can’t they? Some days, I’m bouncing out of bed, ready to conquer the world as soon as my eyes crack open. And other days, well, let’s just say I’m quite literally dragging myself to the coffee pot.

But no matter how I wake up, there’s one thing that never fails to get me going—a warm, comforting bowl of oatmeal. And not just any oatmeal, this strawberries and cream oatmeal.

It’s actually my favorite way to start the day. It’s almost like having dessert for breakfast, but without the guilt. Plus, this recipe is made on the stove, which means it’s got that extra cozy factor.

How To Make Creamy Oatmeal

smooth & creamy every time

    Why A Stove-Top Oatmeal?

Sure, you could zap your oats in the microwave, but where’s the fun in that? Making oatmeal on the stove takes just a few extra minutes, and let me tell you, it’s 100% worth it.

The oats get this incredible chewy, creamy texture that you just can’t achieve any other way. Plus, there’s something meditative about stirring a pot of oatmeal in the morning. It’s a small, quiet ritual that sets a peaceful tone for the whole day.

How To Make Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal

    • 1 cup rolled oats
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 cup water
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
    • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
    • 1 cup strawberries
A small bowl of oatmeal with sliced strawberries on top and a spoon laying next to it.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

    1. Prep the Strawberries: Start by washing and chopping the strawberries. You’ll want them in bite-sized pieces so they mix nicely with the oatmeal.
    2. Mix the Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix the oats, milk, water, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and sea salt together.

Milk, brown sugar, and vanilla extract added to the oats in the pan.
    1. Cook the Oats: Cook the oat mixture over medium heat for 10 ish minutes, until the oats are tender and the oatmeal has thickened to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pan and keep an eye, it can easily boil over.
    2. Add the Creaminess: Once cooked, stir in the Greek yogurt and strawberries. Mix until everything is smooth and well combined.

    1. Serve and Enjoy: Spoon the oatmeal into bowls and add your favorite toppings. I love adding a few extra slices of fresh strawberries on top, a sprinkle of chopped walnuts or pecans, a splash of milk or cream, and a dash or two of cinnamon.

A Few Tips for the Perfect Bowl of Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal

    • Use Fresh Strawberries: Fresh strawberries really make a difference here. If you can’t get fresh, frozen strawberries will work in a pinch, but fresh is always best.
    • Customize Your Milk: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different types of milk. Almond, coconut, or oat milk can all add unique flavors.
    • Play with Toppings: This oatmeal is really delicious on its own, but toppings can really take it to the next level. Try adding a drizzle of peanut or almond butter, a handful of toasted walnuts or pecans, or even a sprinkle of chia seeds (one of my personal favorites).

    Tip

You can cook this oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of chia seeds for added nutrition. When you’re placing the ingredients in the pot before cooking, toss 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in too.

Or you can sprinkle a few on top for a little extra crunch.

    Questions About This Recipe

Yes. You’ll need to reduce the cooking time to 4-5 minutes and the oatmeal will have a less chewy texture.

Yes. Just thaw and drain them before adding them to the oatmeal to prevent excess water from making the oatmeal too runny.

Yes. The oatmeal will still be delicious and creamy, though the Greek yogurt adds extra creaminess and a slight tang that pairs really well with the strawberries. If you skip it, consider adding a bit more milk to achieve an extra creamy consistency.

Yes, you can. Using only milk to make oatmeal on the stove makes it much thicker and stickier though, so keep that in mind.

Using all water will yield a slightly less creamy oatmeal, but it will work just fine.

Absolutely! You can store it in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat it on the stove or in the microwave, but remember to add a splash of milk or water to loosen it back up.

This strawberries and cream oatmeal is more than just a breakfast my friend—it’s a little bowl of creamy happiness to start your day. It’s hearty, comforting, and packed with flavor. Plus, it’s pretty enough to make any morning feel extra special. And if you’re anything like me, a beautiful, delicious breakfast is sometimes all you need to turn a good day into a great one.
