Have you dreamed of turning your favorite breakfast cereal into a gooey, marshmallowy treat? No? Just me? Ha! Well these Fruity Pebbles Krispie Treats combine the crunchy goodness of Fruity Pebbles with the classic, chewy deliciousness of a Rice Krispies Treat.

Actually, some (in this house—Hannah) would argue these are even better than a Rice Krispies Treat. And honestly, they’re colorful, fun, and irresistibly fruity, making them the ideal marshmallow treat.

Now Let’s Make These Treats (Two Ways)

    In the Microwave:
    1. Melt: Start by placing the butter and mini marshmallows in a large glass or microwave-safe bowl. Heat them in the microwave on high for 1 minute. Remove and stir vigorously. The goal here is to ensure the marshmallows are melting smoothly; be sure to mash them down to help with the process. If you find that the marshmallows aren’t fully melted after the initial minute, continue heating in 15-second intervals until you have a completely smooth mixture.

    1. Combine: Once your marshmallow mixture is smooth and creamy, add the Fruity Pebbles Cereal to the bowl. Stir well to coat all of the cereal evenly. You want to make sure every piece of cereal is covered in the marshmallow goo for the absolute best results.
    2. Shape: Pour the cereal mixture into an 8 x 8 inch pan (or a similar-sized pan, as it doesn’t need to be square). Spread evenly with a spatula or the back of a spoon. Or grab a piece of parchment paper (see the tip below) and carefully press down on the top of the bars to “mash” them into place.

    1. Cool and Slice: Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, you can speed up the process by placing the pan in the fridge for 15 minutes. Once cooled, cut into 9 equal-size bars.
    2. Store: Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

    Tip

The truth is, these treats are messy. But, to cut down on the stickiness of spreading them into the pan, lightly spray a hand-size piece of parchment paper with non-stick cooking spray and use that to press down on the cereal mixture and flatten it into place. The marshmallow won’t stick to the greased paper (as much, haha).

    On the Stovetop:
    1. Melt the Butter: Begin by melting the salted butter in a medium-large saucepan set over low heat. This method gives you a bit more control and allows for a slower, more even melt.
    2. Add the Marshmallows: Stir in the mini marshmallows with the butter. Keep the heat low and stir occasionally. Allow the marshmallows to melt until about 75% of them are melted, then remove the pan from the heat. Continue stirring and smashing the marshmallows with your rubber spatula or spoon until you reach a smooth, homogeneous mixture.
    3. Combine with Cereal: Transfer the cereal into a well-buttered large mixing bowl. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the cereal and stir until everything is well combined. The key here is to gently fold the mixture so that the cereal remains intact and crunchy.
    4. Shape and Cool: Pour the combined mixture into a well-buttered 8-inch pan. Gently spread it out to ensure even distribution. Allow the treats to cool at room temperature or refrigerate them for a quicker set, then slice into bars as described above.

    Helpful Tips for Perfect Treats

    • Butter the Pan and Utensils: Whether you’re using the microwave or stovetop method, buttering your pan and utensils will help prevent the mixture from sticking and make it easier to cut into bars.
    • Adjust for Crispiness: If you prefer a crunchier treat, use less marshmallow or increase the cereal slightly (try 5 1/2 cups). For a gooier treat, add a bit more marshmallow or less cereal (try 4 1/2 cups).
    • Mix-Ins: Feel free to experiment with mix-ins like chocolate chips, sprinkles, or even a drizzle of melted (white or milk) chocolate over the top.

And that’s a wrap for now. Whether you’re making these Fruity Pebbles Krispies Treats for a special occasion or just because, I hope you love them as much as we do, and that they bring a little extra brightness and cheer to your day. They always seem to make me smile. Happy snacking my friend!

P.S. Don’t come for my horribly crooked cutting; I learned today that I cannot cut a straight line to save my life. Whoops. I usually have someone home to do this part for me. Today, I did not—I tried. 🤭

    1. These were wonderful, but I was wondering if you’ve ever made them with half plain rice cereal and half Fruity Pebbles?

      1. Hi Cheryl! Thank you so much. I haven’t actually, but I’d think that would make them less sweet if that’s what you’re after. I also think they would look very pretty with two different cereals. Let me know if you try it and how it goes. Happy non-baking!

    2. My family devoured these bars! I forgot how easy they are, love this recipe!5 stars
