Dream Or Achieve?
I belong to a Facebook group full of local CrossFitting friends and there have been some really interesting conversations in there, but one in particular got my attention.
The group admin posted a question asking “what kind of programming do you like to follow?” And surprisingly, lot of people took the time to share their favorite ways to train. But there was one comment that really stuck out to me. The commenter posted that training a certain way (I won’t elaborate on their personal opinion) everyday doesn’t make you fitter.
And that got me thinking – does it really matter how you choose to train or is enjoying what you’re doing and being consistent with it more important?
Let’s discuss this…
Consistency is the key that unlocks the door to transformation, right? It’s what separates those who dream from those who achieve. But what’s the best way to stay consistent? Well, I think the answer lies in finding some form of fitness we genuinely enjoy doing.
Think about it for a moment, if you’re not having fun, why on earth would you keep doing something? The secret to long-term commitment lies in discovering an activity that sets your soul on fire, something that ignites a passion within you (hey CrossFit). Whatever it is, we need to find that thing that makes us excited to jump out of bed each morning.
When you enjoy how you workout, it becomes less of a chore and more of a soul-nourishing experience. Your fitness routine becomes an integral part of your life, seamlessly blending into your daily routine and really, that’s what we’re after, isn’t it? The endorphin rush, the sense of accomplishment, and the sheer joy of pursuing your goals will become your sources of motivation, pushing you to get after it and get it done everyday.
Because let’s be real, if you despise every minute of your workout, chances are you won’t stick with it for the long haul (or at all). And seriously, life’s way too short to force yourself through a grueling workout that feels like an absolute chore, don’t you think? The key ingredient is finding joy in the process itself.
Now, don’t mistake enjoyment for an excuse to slack off, haha. I’m definitely not suggesting you ditch challenge altogether and opt for a leisurely stroll to the nearest donut shop instead (as tempting as that may be). The point is to find a balance between what you love and what your body needs. It’s about combining the pleasure of movement with the pursuit of progress.
Whether you’re a fan of HIIT, yoga, CrossFit, or underwater basket weaving (hey, no judgment here), the magic lies in the consistency of doing it. Showing up, putting in the effort, and pushing yourself to new limits – those are the ingredients that transform mere enjoyment into tangible results. In fact, consistency is the secret sauce that turns dreams into reality, my friend.
So, the next time someone tries to convince you that their way of training is the holy grail of fitness, or that you shouldn’t train the way you like to train because it’s ineffective, take a step back and just flash them a kind smile (or scroll on by like I did), because you know there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to fitness and that there’s really no wrong way to exercise. And besides, fitness is a personal journey that should be filled with laughter, sweat, and maybe a few hilarious gym fails along the way (don’t ask, haha).
Choose whatever path makes your heart race and your face light up, my friend. Embrace the joy and the challenge. And above all else, be consistent with something you enjoy doing. Because in the end, it’s not really about how you train or what you do – it’s about finding your groove and enjoying the ride.
Now, go forth, my fit friend, the world is your oyster gym, and the possibilities are endless.
