If you’ve met me, you know that I talk about whole food…a lot! Well, I’m also a huge local shopping girl. I believe in eating food grown where I live and supporting other local businesses and farmers. I like being able to literally shake the hand that feeds me! There’s something really special about that connection.
I’ve been visiting several local farmers markets over the past few years for the majority of our produce. It’s a fun little saturday morning tradition, though I do have to bribe Hannah with a coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts to get her out of bed, but she’ll go with me and
I think she even has fun!
There are markets popping up all over town, but this one, The Gilbert Farmers Market, is my absolute favorite because it’s the largest one around and well, because they have food trucks! How cool is that?
The market is so good, that I even brave the heat during the summer months to get over there. There’s nothing better than fresh produce all year round. Totally worth it!
I mostly go for the fruits and veggies and they always have a great variety to choose from, but there are also tons of local ‘treasures’ to check out. You’ll find everything from fresh-baked pies and bread (yum!) to hot sauce and salsa to farm-fresh bacon or eggs, all from right here locally. Every time I go, I see something I’ve never seen before (and yes, I usually have to ask someone what it is, haha).
I can almost always find Hannah chatting it up with the lady who makes (the most delicious looking) pies or asking someone about the weird looking poky vegetable thinggy in the produce section. The people there are friendly and they are super knowledgable.
And I really like knowing where, and who my food comes from.
So, if you’re in the market for a good market (haha) or even just looking for somewhere fun to go on Saturday morning, you should absolutely check out The Gilbert Farmers Market in Downtown Gilbert and support our Arizona farmers, vendors, and food trucks!
